National Hospice & Palliative Care Month
Thanks for your support in 2020! We’re looking forward to lighting the night purple again in Nov. 2021.
Hospice of Chattanooga, Alleo Health System, is celebrating 40 years of local, not-for-profit care this year! Even though life around us looks a bit different, our mission to take the time to listen, honor your choices, and walk with you through life’s journey remains the same. The programs we provide are even more critical now than ever before.
In celebration of 40 years, we are offering a robust series of virtual events and engagements including:
• Miles for Memories: (Oct. 5-31) a virtual run/walk/bike at your own pace to honor and pay tribute to the loved ones that have passed.
• Light the Night for Hospice: (Nov. 12) Set your business/home and the city aglow with purple in recognition of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.
• Wear Purple for Hospice: (Nov. 12) Wear purple to show your support for Hospice of Chattanooga and the Alleo Health System family. To request purple ribbons, email lily_quinn@alleohealth.org. Make sure to use #PurpleForHospice on social media and tag Hospice of Chattanooga so we can see your purple and repost!
• Healing Hearts Contest: Download and print the PDF to make a heart, hang in your window, and pay tribute to a loved one who has passed. There are opportunities to win in 3 different categories: originality, message, and overall appearance.
• Brews and Q’s with Dr. Phelps: (Every Thursday in November at 4 PM) This virtual event will be with Dr. Greg Phelps, Chief Medical Officer of Alleo Health on the Hospice of Chattanooga Facebook page. Dr. Phelps will be joined by hospice or palliative care team members to discuss the importance of hospice, palliative care, and advance care planning.
These events will raise critical funds to directly support patient care; providing programs like Memorable Journey for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients, Heart Touch Journey for cardiac patients, Clear Journey for pulmonary patients, grief counseling for children and adults learning how to cope with the magnitude of their loss, support for We Honor Veterans, and so much more!
Light the Night for Hospice, Healing Hearts Contest, and Wear Purple for Hospice are all community wide engagement events where we are asking you, your coworkers, and your loved ones to participate to raise awareness for hospice and palliative care programs. Please visit our website for event details and schedule of each event. Studies show that people who enroll into hospice care earlier will have less visits to the ER and pain management under control. We want to ensure that people in our region receive the utmost care and compassion…Always!
November was designated in 1982 as a month-long national effort to raise awareness for hospice care. National Hospice and Palliative Care Month recognizes the strength and compassion of the professionals and volunteers who help people live with dignity, comfort and support at the end of life. Its designated color purple is associated with spirituality, the sacred, higher self and passion.
